Aug 31, 2020 · Ah Leon was born Chen Ching-liang in Pingtung County, Taiwan. He grew up in a farming community and left home to pursue a college education. At the age of 19, he moved to Taipei and studied painting at the National Academy of Arts (1972–1976). In painting, his preferred style was Western Surrealism.

Jul 10, 2010 · Originally trained as a painter at the National Academy of Fine Art in Taipei, Ah Leon became a master of the traditional Yixing style teapot; hand-built and unglazed in the prized purple clay stoneware from the southern part of Jiangsu Province in East China, where Chinese teapot production began in the Song Dynasty (960-1279 CE).

Richard Notkin and Ah Leon. Richard Notkin is a full-time studio artist who lives and works in Helena, Montana. He received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1970, and an MFA from the University of California, Davis in 1973.
