John Mulcahy was born in Hingham, Ma. in 1931. He attended the Hingham schools, St. Botolph Art School in Boston and served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. In 1958, Mulcahy opened the "Appointment Gallery" with his mother Margaret in her Hingham home. In 1966, he opened the John Mulcahy Art Studio in Wellfleet, Ma.

John’s early inclination for drawing and making pictures caught the eyes of his grade school teachers, and at age eight his drawings began to be selected for exhibitions. Mr. Mulcahy pursued art throughout his education, majoring in art and attending classes at the Museum School in Boston, and Mass. College of Art.
