Nicholas Evans developed a unique style of painting using his fingers and rags to depict his subject matter, which was strongly influenced by his valley background and his Christian upbringing. Much of his work depicts the uphill struggles of the mining communities, which he felt a compelling urge to record for posterity following the accidental death of his father in the mines at Fforchaman Colliery, Aberdare.
