    Philip Simmons was born in Maryland, and studied English literature before attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 1999. He then moved to Germany to work as an assistant to sculptor Hartmut Stielow and attend the University of Applied Arts and Sciences in Hannover.

    It was first know as the South Carolina Artist Blacksmith Association (SCABA). In the beginning, Philip Simmons, the "Charleston Blacksmith" mentored our organization and in 1998 the name was changed to honor him while he was still alive. We now have around 200 members located in the State and a few members from surrounding states.
