Ben Quilty was born in 1973 in Australia and grew up in Kenthurst in Sydney’s North West. Quilty was a reckless teenager with his weekends filled with hard drinking and risk taking behaviour. He later went on to receive a certificate in Aboriginal Culture and History from Monash University in 1996, and in 2001 a Bachelor of Visual Communication at the University of Western Sydney.
