Burri was a talented Aboriginal artist and storyteller, committed to keeping his culture alive through sharing his love of country through his art and the rich cultural heritage of the Dreamtime stories. Born in Macksville, his father was from the Jarrawah Wakka Wakka people of South East Queensland, his mother was Birrbai Dunguti from Taree.

Burri Jerome, Aboriginal artist and story-teller, shares the story of Maramaroo, the platypus. Djanbung is one of the Bundjalung names for the platypus. In 1994 Burri approached the Bundjalung elder and lore-keeper, 'Uncle' Eric Walker, for an appropriate name for the Permaculture Education Centre being established in Nimbin.

Later Burri Jerome painted the Nimbin Rocks Cafe. later to become the home of the Nimbin Happy High Herbs and Daisy clothing store. In 1997, Graeme Dunstan as director of the Lismore Festival of Arts, facilitated a mural project to refresh the deteriorating Nimbin facades.
