Charles R. Crossley, Sr. of McComb, Mississippi was an African American artist who was influenced by Pablo Picasso, Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence and was good friends with the late John T. Scott; an African American sculptor, painter, print maker and professor of art at Xavier University in New Orleans. Here you will find a small portion of the art he created until his passing in 2012.

Charles R. Crossley is a mixed-media artist who was born in McComb, Mississippi, in 1938. He joined the Navy at the age of 17. Following his discharge from the Navy, he attended the Coronada School of Fine Arts in San Diego and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California. He taught art at the San Diego City College for a few years.

Dec 27, 2012 · Charles Crossley, a well-known McComb artist and enthusiastic t eacher of the craft, died overnight at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. Arrangements were incomplete with Young’s Funeral Home of Summit in charge. Crossley grew up in Pike County but left as a teenager. He said his childhood experiences influenced his art.

Dec 31, 2012 · Mr. Crossley was born Oct. 11, 1938, to Charlie Crossley and Elise Deer Crossley. He was a graduate of Burglund High School, Class of 1958. He left Mississippi at the young age of 17 and joined the U.S. Navy, which afforded him the opportunity to travel to foreign places such as the Middle East and the Far East.
