This exhibition includes a number of widely exhibited works by such first-generation Chicano artists as Carlos Almaraz, Margaret Garcia, Gilbert “Magu” Luján, Frank Romero, John Valadez, and Patssi Valdez, whose artistic careers began during the Chicano civil rights movement in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s, as well as works by such younger artists as Vincent Valdez and David Flury.

Sep 08, 2015 · As a student Glugio Nicandro studied printmaking at CalState L.A. in the late 1970s. Nicandro is better known as Gronk one of the founding members of ASCO, the Chicano art group that spray painted the exterior walls of LACMA in the 1970s (and in 2011 were invited inside for a retrospective of the group's work).
