    Dora Wheeler Keith was born in New York and studied art at the Art Students League under William Merritt Chase and in Paris at the Académie Julian. Her mother, Candace Wheeler, was the artist in charge of the interior decorations in the Women's Building at the 1893 World's Fair, and Dora was the creator of the library ceiling mural in the Women's Building.
