Apr 02, 2020 · Doris Lusk (b.1916, d.1990) lived a double life. As Lusk she was a well-respected painter, but under her married name, Holland, she was a potter. Doris was born in Dunedin, grew up in Wellington, and returned to Dunedin for art school in 1934. Doris More Lusk was born in 1916 in Dunedin, but spent most of her childhood in Hamilton where she was encouraged to paint by a woman neighbour. In 1928 the family returned to Dunedin, and Doris had one year at the Arthur Street primary school before entering Otago Girls’ High School in 1930.
