He began painting in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and readily admits he knew nothing of it but thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience. “I particularly enjoy the beginning of the painting,” Mr. Hébert says, “when the canvas is blank, and you can tell any story you want, but then you're married to that image for the next week or two, while you're finishing the painting.”.
