Elisa Kleven I write and illustrate picture books because I've never outgrown a deep childhood urge to enter a magical world. As a child growing up in Los Angeles, I wished that my huge city could be more like the places in the books that I loved -- places where forests grew and seasons changed, where animals talked and anything was possible.

About Elisa Kleven Elisa Kleven writes and illustrates picture books because she's never outgrown her childhood passion for art and story-making. Having spent much of her childhood creating magical, miniature worlds, Elisa now creates similar worlds inside of her picture books. Elisa is the author and/or illustrator of over thirty books.

Kleven lives in Albany, California with her husband, two children, and an aging dog and cat. She studied literature at the University of California, Berkeley and taught fourth grade and art.
