    THE ARTIST Emily Eden, seventh daughter of William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, accompanied her brother Lord Auckland to India when he was Governor-General from 1836 to 1842. She would play First Lady to her unmarried brother in India, and a record of their six years in India survives in a journal published in 1866 (Up the country) and in her correspondence published in 1872 (Letters from India).
