Yet his book illustration was the least favourite of his work--even as it was the most constant throughout his careers in art, theatre design, and interior decoration. It was the time of the Romantic poets like Wordsworth, Byron, Coleridge and Shelley and the Romantic novelist, Sir Walter Scott. Constable and Turner were painting and Beethoven was composing.
