Eric Freifeld was born in 1919 in the U.S.S.R. Saratov. After the Russian Revolution his family emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta. He attended school in Edmonton. In 1942 he enlisted in the Canadian Army, his artistic abilities were recognized and he was posted in the Camouflage School in Vancouver. In 1944 he was discharged for medical reasons.

Eric Freifeld ARCA, CSGA, CSPWC (1919 – 1984) A prominent Canadian draftsman, painter and educator, Eric Freifeld was born in Saratov, U.S.S.R. He came to Edmonton, Canada with his family in 1924 and died in Toronto, where he had lived since 1946. He was a professor at the Ontario College of Art* from 1946 to 1980.
