Undeterred by Degas’ critics, Van Gogh painted ‘Still Life with Absinthe’ in 1887 and Toulouse-Lautrec, ‘Monsieur Boileau au Café’ in 1893. Viktor Oliva followed up in 1901 with ‘The Absinthe Drinker’.
