Gary Long studied art at the Birmingham College of Art and the Manchester College of Art, where he was supported on an Art & Design fellowship. He lived on the west coast of Canada from 1966-68, and for 25 years he worked as a freelance illustrator. Currently and since 1993, he is also a part-time drawing tutor at University College Falmouth.
