    Gelsy Verna, Artist statement: The Unexpected Haitian (2005) Gelsy Verna’s work arises from an interzone, a place framed by the geography of exile and the vicissitudes of crossing between the borders of both culture and identity. “Home” for Verna is a relative concept for someone who cannot return home.
