    George Brookshaw was born in Birmingham in 1751 and died in London in 1823. George Brookshaw and his brother trained as artisans. Apprenticed in his youth to Samuel Troughton, a Birmingham painter and ‘japanner’, George ran away in 1767. Nothing else is known of these formative years.
