    In the early part of his career, Georges Le Brun devoted himself to sober depictions of peasant interiors, taking inspiration from the Italian and Flemish primitive painters for the layout and symbolic meaning of objects. Then, when he moved to the small town of Theux in the Ardennes in 1904, he produced a number of paintings of the new house where he lived with his wife.
