The Gibson RD Artist guitar and bass featured innovative circuitry designed by Bob Moog, of Norlin sister-company Moog. The electronics were largely contained on the circuit board pictured, fitted into the guitars rear cavity. Although seemingly complicated, the board itself was fairly robust and generally do not require attention.

The Moog board for both versions of the RD Artist is identical, although the associated wiring and switching obviously changes between the 1977 and 1979 versions. As can be seen below, the early versions had a 3-way switch (left), and in 1979 this was replaced by two 2-way toggle switches (right).

Still sounds great, but I want to restore it with the moog electronics if possible.

Jul 01, 2013 · The smaller board in the previous post appears to be only the tone section of the RD77 Moog design. I have posted the original Gibson schematic for you. Many complained that this circuit was noisy and the electronics were discarded. On my Artist, I noted that my RD was particularly susceptible to radio station interference.

Nov 01, 2012 · Haven't been around for a while but that's another story entirely. I'm building a reproduction of a '77 Gibson RD Artist (actually, more like a '79 but hey) along with the massive Moog designed pre-amp in the rear.
