For the past 10 years, McMartin has been a full-time artist, with a studio in Chicago where he commissions art for private collectors, galleries and museums all around Chicago, and even as far as New York and California. But he’s also a part-time farmer, who comes back to Grundy Center to help out on the family farm when he can.

Oct 21, 2012 · Grant McMartin ’93 first visited the Art Center on a school field trip from Grundy Center, Iowa. When the teacher told the class it was time to go, Grant had a big revelation (for an eight-year-old, that is). He didn’t want to leave; he felt like he was meant to be at the museum.

McMartin - who grew up just outside of Grundy Center and graduated from Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock High School - now lives and works in Chicago, but said that he was happy to create a piece of art for his home community, and honored to be a part of the movement to bring more public art to the small town where he spent so much of his time growing up.
