    Edward T. Grigware was raised in Spokane, Washington, and as a young man he joined two of his brothers playing baseball in the Spokane City League, the region’s first professional league. After three years, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1911 and studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts (which later became the School of the Art Institute of Chicago), receiving their first scholarship.
