Henry Hetherington Emmerson (1831-1895) H H Emmerson was a landscape, seascape and portrait painter in oil and watercolour. Born at South Shields, he attended the Union British Schools, which encouraged him to draw marine subjects. For a short period he became a pilot but left this in favour of study at the Government school of Design in Newcastle. He also went to study in Paris.
