Jun 25, 2010 · The Artist Custom was really cool, too, but I'm not sure if I would compare it to an SG. It seemed like a blend between a 335 and the Les Paul maybe. A little tamer but classy. I really loved the weight of the Artist compared to the Studio. The Newport Pro is quite different because it's not like the 335 as I thought it might be.

Aug 14, 2006 · Given my prejudices (or really, preferences), I'd recommend an Artist. The maple top ones sort of split the difference between an ES-335 and a Les Paul, which is a great zone for blues. The Artist Mahogany has a somewhat sweeter sound and has a great range of tones from jazz-clean to very hi-gain and overdrive.

Feb 22, 2006 · It's likely a Hamer EchoTone. Made in Korea (methinks), a great guitar for the money, as nice, perhaps nicer, than the currrent Epiphone dot 335's. Hamer does make a few USA models that look a bit like a 335, (the Hamer New Porter), and they are really exquisit, but obviously pricier.

The Echotone was basically a version of the semi-hollowbody Gibson ES-335. With a glued-in neck, the Echotone had bound solid maple top and back with bound f-holes. The 22-fret fingerboard was bound rosewood with dots.Author: Vintage Guitar

Aug 17, 2006 · What I am trying to get at is an Artist is much closer to a Les Paul than a 335. I love my Artist and it got (still gets) played a lot more. I am a traditional blues player. The Studio only came out when I wanted to play hard classic rock. The Artist can do the hard rock thing too, but I had to use the Studio for something.
