    Lidded Jar and Lidded Casserole (see 2000. 72. 1 a‑b) were created toward the end of the 1970 s, shortly before Harriet Bellows decided to give up ceramics and become a pilot. She created a series of vessels inspired by the artist Giorgio Morandi (1890 − 1964), who often painted still lifes of bottles, jugs, and bowls. In Jar and Casserole , Bellows used simple shapes to emphasize the subtle texture of the glaze.
