How Haviland Limoges Gets Marked. After opening his china manufacturing plant in Limoges to increase output of the fine dishware, Haviland hired local artists to hand paint colorful designs. The mark is put under the glaze and directly on the white ware before any painting or finishing is done.

If there is just one mark the china was sold as whiteware and usually decorated elsewhere. Sometimes there is also a mark representing the store the china was produced for. 2) The Haviland France back mark.

Mar 06, 2013 · Several factories owned by the Haviland family began to produce Limoges porcelain and many different marks were used after 1898. During this time the company’s marks were “GDA,” “H & CO/L,” “Haviland & Co. Limoges,” “H & CO/Depose,” “Theodore Haviland, Limoges, France” and “Porcelaine.” Look for a mark in red or green.
