As a young artist in his home city of Birmingham, Stanier had been an active exhibitor of flower pieces and historical genre scenes. Later, in the 1860s and 1870s, he painted Egyptian landscapes and city views before eventually devoting himself to Spanish subjects. Henry Stanier (active between 1854 and 1886) Genre and flower painter (oils and watercolour), Stanier was born in Birmingham, and for some time held the position of vice-consul in Granada. Later he exhibited at Suffolk Street (1860-1864) 12 spanish scenes. He also exhibited 2 other works at other galleries. His work is represented in York Museum.

Note: John Sanford Saltus was a New York numismatist and patron of the arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
