Dec 10, 2005 · hands down, the new american strat couldn't hold a candle to the late 70's hondo strat copy, kid you not. i understand its just my opinion, but if you ever see one of the older, made in japan hondo ii's, give it a try, you wont be disappointed. So i bought the hondo, on the spot for $200 (they were asking $250).

This is a Vintage 1980's Hondo II Professional Electric Guitar with a Gibson Gig-Bag. The professional series guitars were made in Japan by Tokai and Matsumoku. According to the Hondo company's history these guitars came with American made DiMarzio Pickups. Interestingly, these have a "T" stamped on the top of the bobbins.

I use a ‘made in Japan’ Hondo II Professional copy of the Fender Lead II. I picked it up at a guitar center for $100 bucks. White body, black pickguard and a maple fretboard, 25.5″ scale, single coil in the neck and bridge. It is an awesome-looking, great sounding little guitar and is one of my go-to single-coil solid body guitars.

Very nice vintage lefty Hondo II from 1970's era. Standard 34" scale, 9 5 radius fingerboard. Very attractive color combination of maroon body, black pickguard and maple neck. Either made in Korea or Japan. Fully tested and works perfect. Neck is straight, smooth and feels very comfortable to grip. Low string action set up.

Sep 06, 2008 · I also have what I suspect is an old Hondo Pro P bass, but haven't any pics yet. It's a neck-through and a lovely player. The pickup is not a DiMarzio, but I know they were original fitments. A previous owner has painted over the headstock, so it could be Hondo Pro, Vantage, Satellite or any of the other brands produced in that factory.

All the Hondo II Professional series were Matsumoku built, the top price you will ever get for these is £150 in minty condition. They're nice guitars but pretty low on the Matsumoku quality scale to be honest, I've had a couple of the H-1010 double cut versions and they're massively heavy but fun to play.

They are often wrong and make assumptions about Hondo guitars because the name sounds like the Japanese motor company "Honda" and they have read somewhere that Hondo had an association with Matsumoku and Tokai (in actual fact, guitars were made in these factories for only a relatively short time).
