    John Louis Clarke was born in Highwood, Montana, near Great Falls, March 10, 1881, of a Blackfeet Indian mother, Margaret, daughter of Chief Stands Alone, and a part Scottish, part Blackfeet father, Horace J. Clarke. Horace’s father was Major Malcolm Clarke, a West point cadet classmate of General William Sherman of Civil War fame.
