Jul 09, 2008 · Jan Porterfield, 1949 - 2007. Jan was born in Wichita, Kansas, spent many years in Britain, and then moved to Alaska in 1988. She took watercolor lessons off and on for several years, and started devoting serious attention to her art after her cancer diagnosis in 2000. Art was an effective therapy and also proved to be a source of pleasure to others.
