Born in Montreal in 1953, Jean-Pierre Larocque studied drawing and printmaking at UQAM before pursuing studies in ceramics at Concordia University and the Alfred University of New York, from which he received an MFA in 1988. While living and teaching for over ten years in the United States, the artist travelled repeatedly to Europe and Asia.

Entitled Jean-Pierre Larocque: Clay Sculpture and Drawings, the exhibition, accompanied by a catalogue, opened in 2006. A film of the project was presented at the International Festival of Films on Art later that year. His work was featured in Raw/Medium/Rare/Well Done, the ceramics exhibition in the FOFA Gallery in March 2009.

Jean-Pierre Larocque est né à Montréal. Il a obtenu un Baccalauréat de l’Université Concordia en 1986 et une maîtrise en arts plastiques du New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University en 1988. De 1988 à 1999, il a enseigné dans de nombreuses universités américaines.

Jean-Pierre Larocque est reconnu comme l’un des sculpteurs-céramistes importants du Canada. Il réalise également des peintures et des gravures, parallèlement à sa pratique sculpturale. Ayant vécu et enseigné aux États-Unis pendant une dizaine d’années, l’artiste entreprend également de nombreux voyages en Europe et en Asie.
