Clancy earned a BFA in Crafts with a specialization in Fine Metals from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA in 1998 and went on to complete an MFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA in 2005. Since 2013, he has been a metalsmithing and jewelry professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI.
