Jo Ractliffe was born in 1961 in Cape Town and lives in Johannesburg. She completed her BAFA and MFA degrees at the University of Cape Town. In 2010 she was a Writing Fellow at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (Wiser), Johannesburg, and an invited artist at the Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire, USA.
