John Alexander Harrington Bird was a British sporting artist best known for depictions of horses, equestrian scenes, polo players, horse racing and hunting scenes in watercolour, pastels and oils. Some were exotic “Orientalist” scenes of horses with Arabian handlers. Bird was educated in London and studied at the Royal Academy.

John Alexander Harington Bird was born on May 23rd. Bird was educated in London, and intended to follow a military career but turned to art instead, and studied at the RA Schools. John Alexander Harrington Bird. Born: 1846, UK, England, London Died: 1936, UK, England, London. Painter and illustrator. Studied in London, intending to join the military, but instead turned to art and attended the RA schools. Moved to Montreal, Canada in 1875 where he became Director of Art for the Board of School Commissions and exhibited at the Royal Canadian Academy.
