Di Stefano developed an interest in world music, studying Indian music theory and tabla, and after an extended trip to Indonesia in the mid 80s, he was particularly drawn to Javanese gamelan music. Future recordings would forever be indebted to the sounds he heard during those travels.

Profile: John Di Stefano has been involved in writing and performing experimental music since the early 1970s. Trained as a percussionist, he combined electronics and percussion in his music to produce a synthesis of layered polyrhythms and analog/digital electronics. He recorded under the name KLANG, and has presented numerous performances of his experimental music in the Bay Area.
