He steeped himself in the legends of the Salish people and worshipped nature spirits. He longed to be as innocent and pure of intention as the animals who enthralled him. He lived for many years in a barn on Fir Island.

And, the art was good! Here I was introduced to Clayton James, Bill Slater, Paul Heald, John Simon and many more whose work would end up on MoNA's walls during my tenure. The show was so popular and so well attended that the County Fire Marshal closed it down a few years ago. It remains, however, a highlight of our art history.
