Maddison holds a BFA from the Pratt institute, New York City (1965), as well as a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1971). In the years between her BFA and MFA, she worked in art studios in Detroit and Los Angeles, and spent time in Venice, California.

Sep 01, 2007 · Johnnene Maddison wanted to find a way to recognize the contribution of Canadian women on the home front during World War II, and what better way than in quilting, sewing and embroidery– stereotypically a woman’s craft. Her choice of medium lends both truth and irony to the depiction of women’s work at that time.
