Artist Bio. Artist Josie Gonzalez’ hands-on experience with community art making began as a young artist, when she interned with Cityarts Mural Workshop and apprenticed with painter Jorge Soto Sanchez at Taller Boricua/the Puerto Rican Art Workshop in East Harlem, New York. After completing her B.A. in Fine Arts at Queens College, she worked as a muralist with NYC’s Murals in the Parks program.

An early collaborator within the Nuyorican poetry and art movement, Taller Boricua continues to be a catalyst for ideas and an experimental forum for the arts. In 1978 Taller Boricua moved to the Heckscher Building, cofounding it along with Boys Harbor Inc. on Fifth Avenue at 104th Street, which now houses El Museo del Barrio.
