Early Life. Leon Kossoff was born in 1926 in London. He spent much of his early childhood in the city before being evacuated to Norfolk at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. It was here that he first began to paint and, four years later, he returned to London to attend Saint Martin’s School of Art.
