Born in Paris in 1902, Louise Henderson attended classes in embroidery, lace design, drawing and design and the history of art and craft at the School of Industrial Arts in Paris from 1921–27. She emigrated to New Zealand in 1925 and took a position as an instructor in embroidery and design at the Canterbury School of Art in 1926.
