Nov 13, 2014 · Michael Vigil was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1958 and he lived most of his young adulthood in Anaheim, California. He now resides in Taos, New Mexico. Vigil grew up with two rich legacies: an artistic family and his Hispanic culture. He considers his father, the prominent late painter Veloy Vigil, his greatest influence.

A few years later, Michael Vigil was still in Taos not only helping his father but also creating his own artwork with acrylics, oils and fine art prints. In 1986 the Desurmont-Ellis gallery offered representation to him. It turned out providential because there he met his future wife, Tanya Ocañas.

He opened Vigil Press in Irvine, California, and moved the business to Taos in 1984. Michael Vigil started as a studio associate for Veloy Vigil in 1980 until his dad’s death in 1997. Apprenticed at Vigil Press, he later purchased the equipment from Vigil Press with Elven Harvey to become Graphic Impressions.
