MP3tag creates a tag with the fieldname "Band" in the FLAC file and that is not read by Winamp. Winamp expects "Album Artist" (with space) or "albumartist". On the other hand, if I set MP3tag to write to Album Artist instead of Band, it is not read correctly in MP3.

Dec 03, 2011 · To my understanding, Album Artist is the artist in which the album is under. Meaning if it its Aerosmith's CD, Aerosmith goes under Album Artist and no one else despite who else sings on the album. The Artist field then would be whatever artist is singing on that track like Drake feat. lil Wayne.

I believe a very common approach is for each track to have its own artist (if applicable) and then the entire album to have the same "album artist". MP3Tag is a pretty powerful utility if you want greater control over your tags. – nevets1219 May 10 '11 at 22:53
