5-string, maple fretboard, MM-style pickup near the bridge. Tight B-string (35 inch), no dead spots. Tone cuts easily through the mix, good sustain. Nice slap and plectrum sounds (very MM-like, if you boost sharp and narrow around 3-3.5 kHz). Sound is not a direct copy of MM, but character is very comparable. No dead spots on the neck.5/5

Apr 24, 2009 · Here's mine: Super comfy neck and a nice burpy mid tone with some bottom. I had a 5 string Kingston a few years back (which I regrettably sold) and I really like the transparent blue finish. Bonus if you can pick up a MTD Zero-G soft case with one...they are really nice too. Mar 28, 2009 #7.

That said, the MTD’s neck doesn’t have the garage door feel of some 5-strings out there, and the asymmetrical neck carve is generally quite comfortable and smooth. The neck’s low profile makes playing this bass a breeze, but if you are used to a thicker neck, you may have to make some adjustments.
