Noria Mabasa Venda sculptor, Noria Mabasa, was born in Tshigola Village Limpopo in 1938. Her career as artist began with a recurring dream of an old woman who showed her how to work in clay. She first had this dream in 1965 but started only to work with clay in 1974.

Noria Mabasa was born in 1938 in the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Noria Mabasa spent only one year in formal education, having to walk three hours to the nearest school. Despite this lack of training, Mabasa began to experiment with clay in the 1970s. Initially, she produced Domba figures traditionally used in Venda initiation ceremonies.

Aug 04, 2014 · Mabasa became a full time artist in 1976. Born in Xigalo, Limpopo in May, 1938, Mabasa received very little formal education, as a child her closest school was three hours away. When she was 14 years old, she moved to Soweto to live with her brother and a mere three years later she married Jim Mabasa, her husband, who she met in Johannesburg.
