I would love to know how you can tell if an instrument is a "genuine" Paramount. I have a very old clarinet. It has a serial number and an engraved name "PARAMOUNT, ARTIST'S MODEL", but I can't find any other information on the piece. It appears to be silver (possibly coin or German silver).

Before the Artist, PM's don't have a model name. In the 1960s (and maybe 50s) they had many models. Later PMs are sometimes stencils made in France or Czechoslovakia. "It is an "Artist" model and the serial number is 17478." That's primo Penzel Mueller, in my opinion. Artist models with serials in the 16000's and 17000's are superb instruments.

Probably made in the early 1930's in Long Island City, NY (all P-M clarinets were made in NY) The early"Artist" models with serial number comprised entirely of numbers were the top of the line P-M clarinet when they were produced. P-M used the eagle logo on all of their earlier clarinets and didn't drop it until after WW2.

Sep 15, 2017 · A wooden-bodied clarinet with this emblem is a B12 model, and a plastic-bodied is the E11. Some Evettes also may have "Master Model" stamped below the emblem. These upgraded models were mostly produced before the 1960s.
