Dec 24, 2013 · As the title suggests, I've just acquired an old Peavey Artist 240 amp. I haven't been able to find much info, but from what I can tell it's got a solid state pre-amp with tubes in the power section. 120 watts, and I think it was made sometime in the mid 1970s to early 80s.

Sep 22, 2008 · 4-6L6GC power tubes. The early 240 series has all transistor pre-amp and the later VT series had op=amps for the preamp. I prefer the early amp tone. Also came with a 12" BW. 120 watts RMS. Not as warm an amp as the similar 120 watt Deuce, due to the cabinet size.

I have a mid 70's MiA Peavey Artist 240. It has an aftermarket Eminence Legend 15" speaker and the original footswitch. This thing is LOUD! 120w, solid state pre, tube power section. Sylvania 6L6's.

Feb 27, 2010 · Peavey is quite a prolific amp builder - has designed and built a bazilion amp models over the years. The Artist 240 is from the late 70's, as I recall. I'm speculating that the lack of response is because of unfamiliarity with the model -there have been so many Peavey models over the years it is hard to keep track.

Aug 12, 2006 · I occasionally use an Artist 240, and find that it's great bang for the buck. It's compact but a bit on the heavy side; however, the 4 6L6's driving a 12" black widow pretty much justifies the weight.

Nov 02, 2006 · It's a 1980 model Peavey Artist VT. It's got the 12" Black Widow speaker which sounds a lot like a JBL D120 (or E120) to me. The preamp is solid state and the power section has 4 6L6 tubes for about 100 watts of power.
