Artist Biography Philip C. Curtis was born in 1907 in Jackson, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Albion College and studied law at University of Michigan before enrolling in the School of Fine Arts at Yale University.

Philip C. Curtis followed in his father’s footsteps and went to law school, but an art class led him to transfer to the School of Fine Arts at Yale University. The Works Progress Administration hired him as a mural supervisor in New York, then sent him to Phoenix, Arizona, to establish the state’s first art center.Born: May 26, 1907

Mr. Curtis’s paintings can be found in many important private and public collections, including Arizona State University, Smithsonian American Art Museum, University of Arizona, and the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C.
