I've noticed that the 'artistic' filters are greyed out when ever I want to apply an artistic filter to an image. I used to like and use the grain filter which I think was listed in the artistic filter gallery, but that no longer is available. Has adobe discontinued artistic filters and the grain filter in particular?

Aug 01, 2014 · The Filter Gallery (and all other entries for it) will be grayed out if your document is not in a color mode and depth that Filter Gallery can work with. The Filter Gallery filters only support RGB and Grayscale, in 8 bit/channel. And all of this is documented in the online help.

In reply to Ho72 • Jul 23, 2012 In addition to only working with 8bit images, you also have to have something sensible selected - if you've added a curves layer and that is still active, you can't apply a blur or artistic filter. Some filters don't apply if a mask is active.
