When you’re in Pittenweem for the Festival, it’s easy to recognise that this is an artistic community. What is not so easily noticeable is that there are about 30 artists resident in the village. Coupled with this is the very healthy number of galleries, Pittenweem sustains its artistic reputation through the galleries which, after the festival throngs have gone, remain open all year round.

Pittenweem Artists. There are over 50 artists living and working in the East Neuk and many of them exhibit and sell their work several times a year during "East Neuk Open Studios" events. Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife is home to around 30 artists and craft designers. The Festival was begun in 1982 by several resident artists. Each August since then, the Festival has grown to include 130 or more artists and makers from all over Britain who exhibit in houses, studios, galleries and public spaces throughout the village.

Phill has been making art professionally on a part-time basis since 1984. His work has appeared in various periodicals and he has done design for Billy Bragg. He was a contestant in 2018 Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year. He did not win.

The tapestry weaver Rebecca Black will again run her popular weekend courses in Gobelin tapestry and Jan Shelley will be providing some intriguing new insights into the potential of the four shaft loom. Pittenweem (/ ˌ p ɪ t ən ˈ w iː m / listen (help · info)) is a fishing village and civil parish in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland.At the 2001 census, it had a population of 1,747. The name derives from Pictish and Scottish Gaelic. "Pit-" represents Pictish pett 'place, portion of land', and "-enweem" is Gaelic na h-Uaimh, 'of the Caves' in Gaelic, so "The Place of the Caves".
